That, which we enjoy eating, is celebrated today, 16th October 2023. So, why not celebrate it?
As the quality of what we eat matters, so does its quantity. This day is a wake-up call for implementing sustainable agricultural practices that improve food production and its distribution, and a reminder to us about the need to conserve the earth.
The theme of this day is “Water is life, Water is Food. Leave no one behind”. Truly, this is a consolidating pack of what the day is concerned about.
The influence of water on food
Water is the most important aspect of everything. Without water, which is safe for food production or its preparation, we would have nothing to eat. So, pressures on fresh water sources, and its wastage should be dealt with so that we have enough for production of food, and processing it. This is true because of all the 71% of water that fills earth, just 2.5% is considered to have fresh water safe for human use, and consumption.
With this percentage of water, some people in the rural settlements find it difficult to access fresh water safe for drinking and other use.
By not leaving anyone behind, we advocate and serve as voices of these people on this day. We do this by encouraging the government and other philanthropic groups to collaborate with NGOs like us to help build and grant access to drinking water to people who find it hard to get fresh water safe for drinking and use in cooking.
Enjoy the good that comes with this day.
Happy World Food Day!
