Job purpose
The Head of the Antimicrobial Resistance and Veterinary Products Department contributes to the scientific excellence of the Organisation’s work in support of the responsible and prudent use of antimicrobials and the quality of veterinary products. He/She is in charge of the development of activities to generate data and improve transparency on the responsible and prudent use of antimicrobial agents and the control of antimicrobial resistance worldwide, and in the effective use of such data in support of the OIE’s standard setting work. He/She is also responsible for ensuring the performance of the activities of the team and contributes to providing strategic guidance and support to the development of activities.
Missions and activities
Provide strategic guidance regarding the OIE activities related to the work of the Department
Provide support to the design and implementation of strategic initiatives and define the Department’s roadmap in alignment with organisational goals. Participate in management meetings. Report to the General Directorate on the implementation of activities. Promote the OIE mandate and represent the Organisation at relevant international conferences, missions, meetings, workshops etc. Manage relationships with and coordinate/interact with a range of stakeholders, including colleagues, resources partners, Member Countries, Tripartite partners, private sector organisations and external parties.
Provide leadership and management of the Antimicrobial Resistance and Veterinary Products Department team
Translate strategic goals into team objectives and monitor collective performance. Foster a positive and productive work environment through the provision of constructive feedback. Motivate and communicate for the team to convey information continually up, down, and around the Organisation. Organise and oversee tasks to ensure delivery of the team’s missions. Participate in the recruitment process of staff members as well as staff competency development and annual performance appraisal. Manage, improve and, where necessary, identify and formalise the different procedures of the Department.
Participate in and ensure the management and delivery of the team’s missions
Lead the coordination of the OIE’s work on AMR. Lead the implementation of the OIE Global Strategy on AMR and Prudent Use of Antimicrobials; Provide strategic direction on further development of the OIE collection of data on antimicrobial use Coordination with the Tripartite Joint Secretariat for AMR, including guidance on Tripartite technical projects on AMR where OIE is engaged as lead or support organisation; Ensure oversight on Secretariat functions to the Working Group on AMR; The management of related ad hoc Groups and expert advice; Development and refinement of the OIE Lists of antimicrobials of Veterinary Importance; The organisation of information sharing on AMR and VP product related matters including the organisation of relevant networks Interact with academia and subject matter experts; Communication Unit to further develop AMR related activities; Regions and subregions to ensure coherence and when needed support to regional and subregional activities; Provide strategic guidance and support on other activities such as the work related to AMR in aquaculture; The development of the OIE’s work on falsified and substandard veterinary medicinal products; The OIE process for the registration of diagnostic kits Training of Focal Points; Maintain a network of contacts and good communication with WHO and FAO and relevant institutional and private-sector partners; Contribute to providing policy statements and/or strategic thinking and technical input on AMR and veterinary products Represent the OIE and its position within the Tripartite, relevant networks and international forums.
Qualifications and Experience
A post-graduate degree in Veterinary Science or related degree in biological or medical fields;
At least 10 years of professional experience, including a minimum of 5 years in the field of antimicrobial resistance and quality of veterinary products;
At least 10 years of experience in an international environment;
At least 8 years of experience in management.
