Project POWELS – Poultry Welfare and Sustainable Systems – is a scale-up and expansion of our previous interventions and groundwork in Hen Welfare and Cage-free Advocacy (HWCF) in Nigeria. The HWCF has previously made remarkable strides and progress with baseline research, farmers’ engagement and training on humane poultry production practices, consumer awareness, and corporate campaigns. Now, the project has transitioned to POWELS, that aims to transform Nigeria’s poultry sector by promoting humane, welfare-centered, healthy, and sustainable poultry farming systems through multi-pronged interconnected interventions.. With this, POWELS represents a major leap forward for animal welfare and holistic food system reform in Nigeria.
