We have partnered with several organizations and communities to achieve the common goal of protecting our rich but dwindling biodiversity. Recently, we partnered with Pangolin Guild Conservation Nigeria, the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), the Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Ministry of Environment, and members of communities in Epe to execute the Project Pangolin Conservation in Epe, Lagos State Nigeria. With support from the United States (US) Consulate, Lagos, the project has increased wildlife conservation awareness and eradication of pangolin trade within the Oluwo Market in Epe. Oluwo market used to be infamously known as a hotspot for pangolin trade in Lagos but our conservation efforts in recent times have changed that narrative. Many hunters and traders now have a positive attitude towards pangolin conservation and are now spreading the message to the nooks and crannies of Epe.
This feat could not have been achieved without our robust partnerships and network with the community, government funder, and private-sector stakeholders and partnerships. We will also commend the effort and the people’s willingness to take our awareness and advocacy campaigns seriously, including the several meetings and community-based training programs organized to propagate and establish our cause.
For us to protect our wildlife species more effectively, we must do it together! The role of the One Health approach in Wildlife Conservation requires partnership – Let’s do it together.
