One Health and Development Initiative (OHDI) is a non-profit organization that works to address correlated issues of human, animal, and environmental health using the integrated “One Health” approach. Our mission is rooted in the evidence that public health and sustainable development issues are intertwined across the human, animal, and environmental ecosystems, thereby requiring a holistic approach to effective and sustainable solutions.
Animal Welfare is one of our core areas of work which we recognize as an important contributor to One Health. Under this program, we are scaling up our Fish Welfare interventions. Therefore, we are seeking a competent and qualified Fish Welfare and Production Officer who will provide technical support in the advancement, management, and implementation of our fish welfare and management project, research, and stakeholder activities in Nigeria and across Africa.
Responsibilities:
- Provide key technical support to the implementation of OHDI’s Fish Welfare and Management projects
- Contribute to the development of technical and scientific research reports, manuals, and other important documentation on fish welfare and management in the organization
- Provide an excellent representation of OHDI at relevant programs and stakeholder meetings, events, conferences, media appearances, and other engagements
- Support in the development and implementation of fish welfare programs and initiatives
- Contribute to and support resource mobilization
- Collaborate with local authorities, local and international organizations and stakeholders to promote fish health and welfare
- Maintain accurate records and reports on animal welfare programs/project activities
- Carry out other relevant duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- At least, a first degree in Fisheries and Aquaculture, Veterinary Medicine, Animal Science, or other related fields.
- A masters degree and/or extensive experience in fish production and management will be an added advantage.
- At least 5 years of productive work experience in one or more areas of farmed fish production, health, welfare, and management. Additional experience with capture/wild fisheries and other aquatic life will be an added advantage.
- Must be a self-starter, with conceptual, analytical, and innovative problem-solving ability
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including in public speaking, writing technical reports, and interpersonal communications
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with team members, local and international stakeholders, external collaborators, and people in a multicultural, multi-interest, multi-ethnic environment
- Must be resident in Nigeria and proficient in a hybrid work mode
