International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to recruit a consultant to undertake a synthesis analysis looking at the effects of COVID19 restrictions on smallholder livelihoods and livestock value chains across commodities, countries, and systems.
ILRI works to improve food and nutritional security and reduce poverty in developing countries through research for efficient, safe and sustainable use of livestock. It is the only one of 15 CGIAR Research Centres dedicated entirely to animal agriculture research for the developing world. Co-hosted by Kenya and Ethiopia, it has regional or country offices and projects in East, South and Southeast Asia as well as Central, East, Southern and West Africa.
Scope of work
The consultancy will comprise of the following activities:
- Compile information and documents about surveys and/or studies on the effect of the COVID19 pandemic on livestock value chain conducted by ILRI and other CGIAR centres, using checklist (including contact person, country, species, node of the value chain covered, etc)
- Prepare an outline for the synthesis paper, based on available data and information, including possible data and information gaps; incorporate supervisor’s comments and finalise outline
- Prepare a draft paper based on available information and if needed, supplement with discussions with projects’ scientists for additional information or clarification
- Get comments and revise paper
- Present paper in an internal ILLRI/ CGIAR audience; collect comments
- Finalise paper by incorporating comments
Final Products
Expected deliverables are:
- Paper outline and Teams folder with all documents about relevant surveys/ studies organized
- Draft paper
- Seminar presentation and final version of the paper
Consultancy Fee: Lumpsum or by mutual agreement based on agreed milestones and deliverables
Post location: Home base
Duration: 1st July to 31st October with a maximum of 30 working days
Essential skills and qualifications
- Master’s degree in agricultural development with some livestock expertise
- At least 5 years’ experience in a similar role
- Excellent synthesis skills and writing skills
- Skills in data analysis of agricultural households and associated value chains
- Experience in both quantitative and qualitative research
- Ability to work independently
