On behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the global pandemic One Health project aims to strengthen the capacities of epidemic prevention and control at national, regional and global level with a One Health approach. The basis is the BMZ’s One Health Strategy, which identifies interfaces between biodiversity, environmental, human and animal health for pandemic prevention and places a special focus on the detection and control of novel zoonoses. The supraregional advisory approach is flanked by targeted advice and activities at the country level in Africa, Asia and Latin America, where capacities for One Health and international health regulations are being expanded together with networks, bilateral projects and partners.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Cross-sector advice as part of the component “One Health Cooperations” integrated in the global project, as well as cooperation management with partners, multilateral organizations and networks
- Preparation of One Health concepts, cooperation and secondment agreements with multilateral organizations and networks, advice on strategies, implementation plans and the development of synergies with country measures of German development cooperation
- Support of the component management in the conceptual design, in the coordination together with the lead BMZ department and the program management
- Cooperation on One Health topics with other relevant projects, with partner structures, the seconded employees and the One Health networks on a global, regional and country level
- Monitoring support
- Knowledge management for One Health within the project
- Participation in cross-sectional issues of the global project as well as in other GIZ projects
- University degree with a master’s degree or higher in medicine, veterinary medicine, health sciences, environmental sciences, public health or in a related field relevant to One Health
- Several years of professional experience and relevant expertise in German and international development cooperation
- Several years of professional experience and relevant expertise in the field of One Health, biodiversity, environmental health or human and animal health
- Relevant expertise in consulting on One Health and cooperation with partner institutions and international organizations such as WHO, OIE, FAO etc.
- Knowledge of the goals, concepts, methods and institutions of international cooperation in the field of One Health, global health, and pandemic prevention and control
- Communication, cooperation, negotiation and advisory skills
- Authenticity, resilience as well as performance and goal orientation
- Business fluent language skills in German and English, spoken and written (C2); Knowledge of French or Spanish is an advantage
