The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) contributes to the achievement of
the 2030 Agenda through FAO Strategic Framework by supporting the transformation to MORE efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable agrifood systems, for better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life, leaving no one behind.
ORGANIZATIONAL SETTING
The FAO Investment Centre (CFI) aims to be the go-to place for investment and finance solutions that
lead to more efficient, sustainable, inclusive and resilient agrifood systems. CFI is a multidisciplinary
centre comprising the Director’s office, which leads on strategy and business development, knowledge management, communication and administration, and five regional services.
TECHNICAL FOCUS AND KEY RESULTS
Provide analytical and and technical support on sustainable livestock management, including livestock
production and economics, animal nutrition and forage development, animal genetic resources
improvement and management, animal health and advisory services, biological diversity and others. The key results includes delivering investment and finance support solutions through the provisions of
technical advice and capacity development, in collaboration with country stakeholders and cooperating partners, to achieve impact at scale in the transformation of agrifood systems within the scope of the FAO Strategic Framework.
KEY FUNCTIONS
The primary functions of the position includes the following:
Preparation of documents in accordance with FAO, government and financing partners’
requirements.
Leading the identification of constraints and opportunities for enhancing the sustainable
management of livestock systems, with emphasis on sustainable livestock production and
processing.
Advises governments in the preparation of food and agriculture, rural development, natural
resource management and agro-processing studies and strategies, as well as the formulation of
national sector and/or sub-sector investment plans and programmes.
Also, advises on the social and environmental sustainability of livestock production and
processing activities, including impact on climate change of existing livestock and farming,
livelihoods and resource use systems, etc.
Helping to define the technical parameters for financial and economic analysis including in value
chain.
REQUIREMENTS
Candidates will be assessed against the following minimum requirements:
Advanced university degree in animal production, animal science or a related field.
Ten years of relevant experience in planning and implementing sustainable livestock and
agricultural development projects and programmes.
Proficiency of English and French.
Competence in Communication and advocacy, partnering and resource mobilisation, as well as
strategic thinking.
