The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to recruit a PhD graduate fellow to work on assessing wildlife value chain and interspecies transmission risk of zoonotic diseases using a One Health approach in Vietnam. ILRI primarily works to improve food and nutritional security and reduce poverty in developing countries through research for efficient, safe and sustainable use of livestock. The successful fellow will be hosted at the Animal and Human Health (AHH) program at ILRI.
JOB PURPOSE/RESPONSIBILITIES
ILRI is recruiting a PhD fellow to develop and implement a risk assessment framework founded on the One Health approach along wildlife meat value chains to determine the following:
- The magnitude of this problem
- The analysis of biological samples that were collected recently from these value chains.
- The prevalence of selected zoonotic pathogens in these chains, etc
Also, in close collaboration with ILRI supervisors, the successful fellow will:
- Develop a protocol for screening human and animal diseases including collection of blood and serum samples for zoonotic diseases.
- Develop a risk assessment framework, focusing on risk of zoonoses spillovers from wildmeat value chain.
- Develop a survey for risk factors, knowledge, attitude and perception.
- Lead the sampling and as well process the collected samples for laboratory analysis.
- Draft a thesis and at least three journal publications, etc
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must posses a minimum application requirements of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree (B.Sc) in Veterinary medicine, Animal science, Public health or other relevant areas.
- Master’s degree within relevant field e.g., Epidemiology, Ecology and Data science.
- Sound quantitative statistical analysis skills.
- Good skills in a programming or scription language.
- Excellent command in written and spoken English and Vietnamese.
- Good working knowledge of MS Office packages, and many more.
