About the Consultancy
The African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET), a non-profit networking and service alliance of Field Epidemiology (and Laboratory) Training Programmes (FELTPs) and other applied epidemiology training programmes, on behalf of the Africa CDC, seeks to hire an individual consultant to develop and implement an Africa CDC Continental Climate Change and Health Strategic Framework.
This assignment aims to define and prioritise the necessary measures and systems to tackle the health impacts of climate change. The assignment will identify and define climate change-related public health impacts, health system gaps, and key priorities for Member States, as well as develop a robust climate change and health strategy plan for African Union Member States to adapt and implement.
The consultancy’s overall objectives are to develop a continental climate change and health strategic framework, as well as a policy framework for the health sector, which includes but is not limited to:
a) Strengthen the resilience of public health systems and services in Africa to reduce or prevent mortality and morbidity due to the impact of climate change on health by summarising evidence, identifying gaps, and proposing solutions to those gaps.
b) Work in a collaborative manner across organisations and nations to develop innovative products, methods, and actions to prevent the negative health consequences of climate change in Africa.
c) Support advocacy for increased awareness of the health impacts of climate change and the need for urgent action to mitigate and adapt to its effects.
Qualification:
The incumbent must have an advanced degree in environmental science, One Health or public health and previous experience on topics related to climate change and health. A PhD with a focus on climate change and health-related impact assessment will be an added advantage.
