This time, we were pleased to have our special Guest Speaker, Dr. Peter I. Imoesi, a Research Fellow at the University of Aberdeen. He spoke on the topic “COVID-19: Testing strategies and Journey to Drug Discovery“.
ABOUT DR. PETER I. IMOESI
Dr. Peter Ikhianosimhe Imoesi is a Molecular Neuroscientist and a Research Fellow at the Institute of Medical Sciences, University of Aberdeen, and TauRx Therapeutics Ltd, both in the United Kingdom. He has a Ph.D. in Translational Neuroscience from the School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition, University of Aberdeen. He hails from Edo State, Nigeria where he acquired his first degree in Biochemistry from Ambrose Alli University and completed his Master of Science degree in Molecular Biology with a Distinction Honors at the University of Hertfordshire in the United Kingdom. His M.Sc. dissertation earned an outstanding grade for the overall best in project research at the University of Hertfordshire, School of Life and Medical Sciences. Over the course of his career, he has won multiple research award grants and scholarships from the University of Aberdeen, Sir Richard Stapley Education Trust, MRC Discovery Aberdeen Research Grant, and British Society for Neuroendocrinology among others.
With various research achievements in biochemistry, molecular biology, bioinformatics, and drug pharmacology, his views are widely sought after on testing capacity, strategies, and processes being currently employed in the control of the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria. He has been engaged on several media platforms including Channels TV, CNBC Africa, Africa Independent Television (AIT), Galaxy TV, and TVC Connect among others.
Beyond the lab, Dr. Peter is beautifully married and enjoys writing on his blog: www.pethianopeters.blogspot.com about general societal issues, personal development, and motivating people for excellence; also, he enjoys reading non-scientific books and watching the English Premier League (a huge supporter of Arsenal Football Club). He has a published book to his name, titled: Absolute Success. His favorite science jokes are “Miss Protein, can I catalyze your hydrolysis?” and “Oh Pepsin! Don’t be such a protease!”
