We are proud to announce the publication of eight country-specific Fish Welfare Training Guides developed under the AFIWEL Program for Nigeria, Ghana, Tunisia, Malawi, Zambia, Uganda, Kenya, and South Africa.
Co-developed with the 2025 AFIWEL Fellows and validated by national aquaculture experts, researchers, and stakeholders, these guides provide practical, context-specific tools and guidance for integrating fish welfare into everyday farm management, biosecurity practices, handling, and production systems. Each guide reflects the realities of its respective country while aligning with global best practices in ethical and sustainable aquaculture.
Together, these publications mark a major step forward in advancing welfare-driven, food-safe, and environmentally responsible aquaculture systems across Africa.
