Tanzania Agroforestry Specialist

Role Overview:
The Agroforestry Specialist will oversee One Acre Fund’s agroforestry program across designated sites, focusing on seedling production, innovation, and process improvement. Reporting to the Agroforestry Associate/Manager, the role includes managing a team across 100-150 villages and 1-2 centralized nurseries, requiring 60% field work and 40% office work. The location is flexible within the Iringa, Njombe, Mbeya, and Songwe regions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead seedling cultivation and ensure healthy growth for optimal planting times.
  • Design and implement trials for soil-improving, timber, and fruit species.
  • Identify and address barriers to seedling survival and tree growth.
  • Manage a large field team to meet performance expectations.
  • Promote program expansion and financial sustainability.
  • Develop and implement seedling marketing and distribution strategies.
  • Engage with stakeholders, including government officials, to ensure program buy-in.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Agroforestry, or related fields.
  • Experience with data collection and analysis in Excel/Google Sheets (SPSS, STATA, or R is a plus).
  • People management experience.
  • 2+ years managing nursery production or tree planting projects.
  • Technical knowledge of sourcing quality seeds.
  • Fluent in English and Swahili.
