Vacancy Communications Assistant

One Health and Development Initiative (OHDI) is a non-profit organization that works to address correlated issues of human, animal, and environmental health using the integrated “One Health” approach. Our mission is rooted in the evidence that public health and sustainable development issues are intertwined across the human, animal, and environmental ecosystems, thereby requiring a holistic approach to effective and sustainable solutions.

Overview of Position

We are seeking a qualified and experienced candidate to fill the position of Communications Assistant. They will support the communication of OHDI’s vision, values, organizational activities, and impact to the public; leverage relevant traditional and social media channels, and utilize the organization’s media platforms to promote related One Health impact, information, education, advocacy messages, and opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

Communications and Visibility 

  • Develop contents for OHDI’s social media platforms, newsletters, and website updates.
  • Assist in designing content calendars for all program areas.
  • Draft blog posts, social media captions, and assist in designing graphics or visual content (using tools like Canva). 
  • Support in developing communications materials for events, campaigns, and publish newsletters.
  • Monitor engagement across social media channels and provide weekly performance summaries. 
  • Assist in scheduling social media content via management tools. 
  • Support media relations efforts including press releases and media outreach. 
  • Ensure consistency with OHDI’s branding and messaging guidelines.
  • Support the documentation and publication of project reports, case studies, and success stories. 
  • Upon request, represent OHDI and participate in traditional media activities, including radio interviews, TV appearances, and social media activities
  • Collaborate with other members of the communications team and members of respective projects to effectively carry out duties.
  • Other relevant duties as directed

Required Qualifications

  • Must have a Degree in Communications, Development Studies, or Health related field.
  • Proven experience in communications and social media management
  • Experience in program implementation, stakeholder engagement, or project management
  • Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills
  • Proficiency in content creation tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Suite, video editing apps) is an added advantage
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment

Work Conditions

  • This is a full-time hybrid role.
  • The Communications Assistant may be required to travel occasionally for project activities, events, or stakeholder engagements.

Contract Terms

  • Duration: 3 months (with possibility of extension).
  • Location: Hybrid work setting and based in Abuja, Nigeria 
  • Remuneration: Commensurate with experience and OHDI salary scale.
  • Reports to: Programs and Communications Coordinator & Executive Director
