The main purpose of this assignment is to continue providing technical support to the UNICEF WASH Section and four UNICEF field offices in reviewing proposals for funding for Neglected Tropical Diseases control interventions in twelve UNICEF assisted states based on 2021 approved work plan, and provide necessary feedback and follow up to ensure implementation of the approved activities. The individual contractor will assist the WASH Specialist and collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Health and any engaged NGO to ensure implementation of the 2021 approved activities. These include early approval of the Import Duty Exemption Certificate (IDEC) for 2021 Mectizan donation to Nigeria. He/She will facilitate supply chain management of Mectizan and all the necessary documentation and processes for the collection of 2021 mectizan consignments by NOCP and all the NGDOs involved in the Onchocerciasis Control Programme in the country. Based on the approved 2021 workplan and in collaboration with NOCP, conduct advocacy and programme monitoring visits to twelve UNICEF assisted States to solicit for increased and sustained financial support for programme implementation and to ensure compliance with agreed workplan. While consolidating on the expansion of Lymphatic filariasis control to Rivers and Bayelsa States, She/He will finalize Onchocerciasis Epidemiological evaluations in Benue, Ekiti, Gombe, Ogun & Niger States; facilitate documentation of lessons learned from WASH/NTD and WASHCOM/CDD Collaboration; and contribute to the preparation of monthly progress and donor reports on National Onchocerciasis Control Programme.
The individual contractor will be based in the UNICEF Nigeria Country Office, Abuja and will work closely with the Neglected Tropical Diseases Division of the Federal Ministry of Health, NTD National Steering Committee as well as UNICEF National and Field Office colleagues. The tasks will involve travelling to States, LGAs and Communities for consultations with relevant government partners. The duration of the contract will be eleven months.
Eligibility
- An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in Public Health, Social Science, or related technical field.
- A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in Public Health in Nigeria.
- Good communications and writing skills in English.
- Excellent presentation skills, both in terms of written and oral communication.
- Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
- Willingness to travel to rural and semi-urban areas of the country.
- Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
