
One Health and Development Initiative (OHDI) is a non-profit organization that works to address correlated issues of human, animal, and environmental health using the integrated “One Health” approach. Our mission is rooted in the evidence that public health and sustainable development issues are intertwined across the human, animal, and environmental ecosystems thereby requiring a holistic approach to effective and sustainable solutions.
We are currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to be a Program Officer (Conservation and Biodiversity) in the organization. The Program Officer will play a key role in implementing projects that protect ecosystems, enhance species conservation, and promote sustainable environmental practices. The Program Officer will support the design and implementation of conservation initiatives. This includes ecosystem protection, habitat restoration, species conservation, biodiversity monitoring, and policy advocacy for environmental sustainability.
Job description
- Support the ideation, planning, execution, and evaluation of projects and research activities related to biodiversity and wildlife conservation and impacts on One Health and Sustainable Development.
- Conduct research and analysis on sustainable ecosystem trends, policies, and innovations, including the development and implementation of data collection processes
- Facilitate relevant intervention activities in both land and marine ecosystems, and support policy advocacy efforts related to ecosystem protection, habitat restoration, species conservation, biodiversity monitoring, and environmental sustainability.
- Contribute to the development of technical reports, policy briefs, and best practice guidelines.
- Build partnerships and collaborate with stakeholders, including community members, policymakers, research institutions, and civil society organizations.
- Support fundraising and resource mobilization efforts, including proposal writing and donor engagement.
- Discharge all other related and relevant duties as would be assigned.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Conservation Biology, Ecology, or related fields. A Master’s degree is an advantage
- At least 3 years of active experience in biodiversity conservation, ecosystem management, or related areas.
- Knowledge of conservation practices, climate change mitigation, and environmental sustainability.
- Experience in project management, stakeholder engagement, and community-based conservation.
- Strong research, analytical, and policy advocacy skills.
- Excellent communication (written and oral) and report-writing skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multicultural setting.
- Proficiency in GIS, data analysis, and digital tools is an advantage.
