One Health and Development Initiative (OHDI)

Health Security Research and Policy

Developing a Resource Guide and Toolkit for Sustainable AMR Solutions

Project Summary

The Health Security Research and Policy project area serves as the central hub for OHDI’s work on zoonotic diseases, epidemic intelligence, preparedness, and One Health health security systems strengthening. This portfolio brings together operational research and generating evidence to inform prevention, preparedness, detection, and response to zoonotic diseases and other public health threats, surveillance system strengthening, policy engagement, and multisectoral coordination to address emerging and endemic health threats at the human–animal–environment interface.

We collaborate with governments, academia, international organizations, and communities to to advance this important work. By bridging research, policy, and implementation, OHDI contributes to building resilient, coordinated, and sustainable One Health systems capable of preventing and responding to current and future health threats.

Project Components

The Sustainable Impact Resource Guide and Toolkit is being developed through six key phases

1

Health Security Research

We conduct applied and implementation research on zoonotic diseases, epidemic preparedness, surveillance systems, and One Health coordination mechanisms. This includes operational studies, system assessments, evaluations, and evidence synthesis to inform policy, strengthen programs, and improve real-world health security outcomes across sectors.

2

Health Security Policy

We support governments and partners in strengthening health security governance through policy development, technical advisory, and multisectoral coordination. Our work contributes to national and subnational strategies, One Health platforms, surveillance. emergency preparedness and response frameworks, ensuring evidence-informed and context-specific decision-making.
