Application Deadline: August 7, 2024
The growing threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) spans humans, animals, and the environment, yet the environmental aspect remains underexplored. This call seeks multi-disciplinary research proposals aimed at mitigating the impact of antimicrobials and AMR in natural and built environments, with a focus on improving human and animal health. Researchers are encouraged to explore cross-sectoral One Health approaches to develop integrated solutions for this global issue.
Proposals should focus on high-risk environmental settings such as healthcare facilities, intensive livestock and aquaculture systems, and areas impacted by pharmaceutical waste. Emphasis should be on quantitative methodologies to assess risks and evaluate mitigation strategies. The scope includes soil, air, water, and the built environment, targeting hotspots of antimicrobial residues and drug-resistant bacteria.
Researchers must incorporate an intervention and implementation research framework, testing evidence-based solutions or proposing innovative interventions. Studies should include comprehensive evaluations of intervention effectiveness, enablers, and barriers, along with behaviour change and economic impact assessments. Policy impact evaluations are also encouraged. Observational studies will not be considered.
