Top 10 Photos for One Health Photo Competition

In early September 2020, we put out a call for the OHDI One Health Photo Competition (Cycle 2) themed “Food Security and Livelihoods” The One Health Photo Competition is a bi-annual activity that aims to promote creative images and pictures with a One Health message, showcasing an interaction between human, animal, plants and/or environmental health. By the competition deadline of September 30, 2020, we had received a number of 46 photo entries from 11 countries.

After much deliberations, we finally selected our Top 10 photo entries which were showcased and presented for public voting on our Instagram platform (@onehealthdev). Subsequently, the the winner emerged to win the competition’s cash prize of $50.00 and a Certificate of Achievement. Other photographs which demonstrated outstanding creativity, were also awarded accordingly.

We present to you, our Top 10 photos/photographers!

Baasim Borokini (Nigeria)

Baasim is a young graduate veterinarian and an ardent proponent of the SDGs. He is also considers himself a shutterbug, with particular interest in nature and narrative photography.

 

Sourav Karmakar (India)

Sourav Karmakar is a 39-year-old graduate of Mass Communication from the University of Calcutta with key interest in outdoor photography.

 

 

Rahab Gakuru (Kenya)

Rahab Gakuru was born and raised in Laikipia, a farming community. She has always been fascinated by people’s stories and believes there is always something new to learn.

 

Laura Nyangeri (Kenya)

​Laura Nyangeri is the CEO and Co founder at Kids for Life organization where she promotes community nutrition and educates teen mothers to apply nutrition knowledge, contraception and skills development.

David Dzirasah (Ghana)

King David Dzirasah is a photographer from Ghana, a conservationist and a champion of environmental sustainability.

 

Mustefa Geda (Ethiopia)

Mustefa Geda a.k.a Dj Mieco is a DJ and a pharmacist from Ethiopia and works to promote Ethiopian Art, Music and History.

 

Prejit Nambiar (India)

Prejit is an amateur photographer and Officer-in-Charge of Centre for One Health (COHEART) at Veterinary University, Kerala in India with a strong passion for propagating One Health concept.

 

Sammy (Nigeria)

Sammy is a 31-year old Nursing graduate with a Master’s in Reproductive Health. She is a Lecturer/Researcher at a Federal University in Nigeria and is passionate about maternal, newborn and child health.

 

Waithera (Kenya)

Waithera is a vibrant & an outgoing environment enthusiastic, who’s passionate about animals and vegetation, with a growing interest in photography.
