This is an opportunity for someone, with relevant background and knowledge, to gain experience in international work, to contribute to a new and exciting area of work, and to expand their network by working with world leading scientists. The Intern will support the implementation of selected activities within the Wildlife Health Framework relating to One Health, multisectoral collaboration and capacity for wildlife health management, monitoring and surveillance systems.
Internship role and activities
The Intern will support implementation of the Wildlife Health Framework, in particular:
1- Provide general support to the Preparedness and Resilience Department in the implementation of the activities defined in the Wildlife Health Framework for the outcomes “One Health, multisectoral collaboration and capacity for wildlife health management, monitoring and surveillance systems Strengthened”;
2- Play an active role in developing guidance on reducing the risk of disease spillover events at markets selling wildlife and along the wildlife supply chain, by supporting preparation for and running of OIE’s ad hoc group meeting. The ad hoc group is a multidisciplinary group of world leading scientists tasked with developing such guidance for the OIE.
3- Exposure to and engagement with the OIE Working Group on Wildlife (world leading scientists who advise the OIE on its wildlife programme) by supporting preparation for and running of their December meeting.
Candidates must meet one of the following educational requirements:
• currently enrolled in a post-graduate academic programme or
• have graduated no longer than 1 year ago from a post-graduate programme or equivalent studies.
Field of study: in zoology, disease ecology, ecology, environmental sciences Veterinary Sciences, Public Health, wildlife conservation, or socio-economy.
Ability to work in English at a high level including excellent oral and written communication skills;
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
